Tom in party mood
What does it mean to be an artist? When I was young I thought it meant being able to draw accurate and realistic pictures of what I saw around me.
Over the years I’ve come to understand that it’s all about expression. I’m a firm believer in the old adage that there’s no such thing as bad art. Simply what you like and what you don’t like.
In this respect I believe anyone and everyone can be creative. For me, I enjoy creating and putting together materials in interesting abstract configurations. Paint, collage,
ink, wood, found objects. Big, small, tiny. I like the variety.
My inspiration comes from a lifetime of reading, observing, writing fiction and making music. They all combine into an amalgam that never leaves me short of ideas. I like to think that the results have a deeper meaning, and I’m always fascinated to hear what people see in my pieces.
Their observations are often very different from my own, which all adds to the mystery that is art.
