Cally began exhibiting her work in 2014, the same year she completed her Diploma in Painting & Drawing with the London Art College. A short time later, she decided to make art her full-time career. She works from her studio on the family’s farm at Burton-in-Kendal.
Cally likes being outdoors, especially fell walking. She enjoys solo hikes and hopes to capture the solitude of the high fells in her artwork. She is most drawn to the rhythm and line of the dry-stone walls, becks, ridges and paths that lead the eye through the landscape. She feels fortunate to live in the most beautiful county in England, and one that’s a never-ending source of inspiration. Her current series of local landscape paintings aim to show the unrelenting changes in weather, atmosphere and light whilst also depicting the constants of form and place. Expressive lines are drawn over the painted layers, giving the landscapes a sense of pace and movement.
