Capturing Moments - Val Powell

  • Gallery North West 24 Front Street Brampton, England, CA8 1NG United Kingdom (map)

Val is a contemporary artist living in the beautiful Eden Valley between the Lake District Hills and the Pennines painting Landscapes and Still Life in oils, oil & wax, and now experimenting with acrylics. Something of a butterfly she ‘flits’ between mediums and sometimes style.

On Retirement she decided to follow a long held wish to Paint.  Mostly self taught and taken short local or online courses and culminating in a year spent at the Norfolk Painting School with celebrated artist Martin Kinnear.

The joy of walking or cycling and the gathering in of experiences around the country and abroad gives her inspiration, the feeling of freedom, the air and winds, the atmosphere and clouds, with colour and light too all add to the emotion and excitement she feels and tries to capture from memories, sketches or photo’s.

Always trying to capture the emotions of a moment Val says,

My images represent my reality, not always representative, but those strong intuitive feelings, the passion, the joy, the love, as I try to put onto canvas those emotions I feel and hopefully leaving something for the viewer to explore.

Val is a member of the Eden Valley Artistic Network (EVAN) with Studios and a Gallery in Penrith.  She exhibits in the Gallery and takes part in various exhibitions in the area and has several times been successful in exhibiting in the annual Open Exhibition at Upfront Gallery. You can see her work in the EVAN gallery or on her website valpowellart.co.uk.
