Always trying to capture the emotions of a moment Val’s images represent a reality, not always representative, but those strong intuitive feelings, the passion, the joy, the love, are transferred onto canvas, hopefully leaving something for the viewer to explore.
Drawn to the rhythm and line of dry-stone walls, becks, ridges and paths that lead the eye through the landscape. Cally feels fortunate to live in the most beautiful county in England, and one that’s a never-ending source of inspiration. Her landscape paintings aim to show the unrelenting changes in weather, atmosphere and light whilst also depicting the constants of form and place.
With her current body of work she is going back to her roots and exploring colour and form through geometry, as well as looking at the line itself, with more heavily patterned pieces.
Daniel Hester is a artist/musician exploring and working in a variety of disciplines, currently focused on fine art, original folk music and nature photography.
As an artist, Daniel aims to create desirable pieces that not only have a decorative value but that are rich in historical and cultural value too. Many pieces are based off of archival photographs ranging from the late 19th century through to the late 20th century.
Born and bought up in Yorkshire, Charlie and his family moved to Cumbria more than forty years ago, drawn by memories of many summers spent on the shores of Ullswater at Sandwick Bay.
His paintings, mainly in Acrylic, aim to capture the wonderful scenery of the lakes and mountains at various times of year.
Sarah Reid’s work captures an emotional response to the scenery and invites the viewer to explore the scene - drawn in by unexpected hints of light and colour to provoke a real sense of being. Drawing on experience and memories to create timeless yet contemporary expressions of our landscape.
I’m inspired as always by our beautiful countryside as well as being constantly challenged to capture its vibrancy and movement. My goal is always to produce my own personal interpretation and representation of what I see and am experiencing. I’m always keen to explore new ideas, try different painting methods, techniques and I believe, am becoming more adventurous in my work.
Carl and Paul Fitton with a sideways look at how we live with more than a hint of dark and light fantasy
We are over the moon to welcome Maria Burton to GNW. Her contemporary and semi abstract paintings convey the emotions she feels when exploring the landscape
Predominantly working in oils, I employ an impressionistic technique that uses both palette knife and brush resulting in the blended but also richly textured, vibrant style for which I have become renowned. I have established myself as a contemporary land and seascape artist.
Rosie Galloway-Smith is a Carlisle based artist who creates figurative semi surreal artworks based on emotion, experience, and psychology. The work currently being shown extends Rosie’s interest in clothes as representations of emotional states and looks into the pathos of dying flowers.
Troy Slater- Having such a broad experience in many creative fields has led Troy to his latest and most expansive project for 2023, a portion of which will be on display at Gallery Northwest this summer.
Troy’s newest work is a legitimate cross genre, multimedia work. Sincere, uncompromising and rebellious, this new and focussed work will challenge tropes and signify an assertion from the artist.
Landscape artist Stuart James Fraser, forced by lockdown to re-connect with his own locality, realises just how fortunate he really is.
This current body of work celebrates his home, village, and the surrounding countryside of the iconic and stunning Eden Valley.
